Our Companies: How we got started
I stumbled upon the idea for this business while pursuing a vision I had for streaming live content over the internet. At that time such a thing did not exist and live streaming controllable cameras were not available.
I came up with the idea for the Webcamproshop and the live content broadcasting back in 1995 while traveling through South America after graduating from college. During this time on a very remote beach I met a web programmer who suggested that network cameras can be used to transmit live images from a beach like this to computer users worldwide. That short conversation stuck with me over the next two years as I formulated my business plans. Through extensive research and engineering it was obvious that not only is live video via public networks possible but it can serve many useful purposes. The only problem with live webcams back in 1998 was that they were very limited in demand and did not stream video efficiently at first. First generation IP cameras only produced still images and video was limited to a few frames per second. This was not my vision and I felt streaming video could be done better than the current state. I knew that I couldn't be the only person interested in streaming live cameras that can pan, tilt and zoom. The need for a national business to serve this niche business seemed obvious to me.
Sales during my first year were not good, as the Internet revolution was well into the bubble bursting stage. Online companies were over promising and under delivering on their service.
Listening to my customers, I decided to launch www.webcamproshop.com, an online retail store, with information where buyers would be comfortable with live network cameras, Wireless, NVR software, Outdoor housing and other accessories needed to make a camera system complete and functional.
Emphasizing on the complete camera system and not just the "camera box" scenario, Webcamproshop has focused on offering information, a variety of products, and exceptional customer service in the same fashion and urgency it took to get this company off and running. These values continue to define our company’s culture today. Now we're a thriving organization headquartered in San Diego, California.
