Toshiba IP network PTZ camera provides high-resolution, wide-range remote surveillance coverage.

The IK-WB21A surveillance camera, offering ultra-fast Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) capability, razor-sharp SXVGA resolution (1280 x 960), and network functionality helps security professionals achieve new levels of remote monitoring performance with a wider field-of-view than standard TCP/IP cameras. The camera is able to connect to a network by 10/100T-Base Ethernet.

The IK-WB21A's integral web server transmits its video with audio signals at rates approaching 30 frames per second by means of highly efficient M-JPEG compression streams. Using only a standard web browser with ActiveX support, camera images can be remotely viewed and the camera's PTZ and multiple presets controlled via a desktop PC, notebook or Internet-ready cellphone on a LAN, WAN, Intranet or the Internet without additional software or plug-ins. Plus, the camera features a slot for a removable SD memory card, allowing for an added "at-the-camera" recording option that works in conjunction with an alarm.

The high quality, auto focus lens (f=4.0 to 88mm) has a built-in 22x optical zoom to scan in on tight areas, such as visual verification of a cash register transaction. Incorporating a powerful 1.4-inch CCD, the IK-WB21A provides superior images with more detail and improved brightness than any other network camera in its class. Even at challenging lighting conditions, the IK-WB21A outperforms the competition thanks to its versatile backlight compensation, auto gain control, and extreme low-light sensitivity (0.13 Lux@F1.6).

Sleek, lightweight and remarkably compact, the all-in-one IK-WB21A offers the flexibility of being ceiling mounted or placed on a flat surface.

Bought this camera over a year ago for a scenic and weather webcam application. So far it has performed superbly well. Installation has been active 24/7 through winter storms and summer heat. Picture quality is excellent and the PTZ functionality very responsive. We have movement, zoom and focus controls available to all users of our website who can run javascript. Seeing is believing... so take a look for yourselves!

Retail Store Installation April 28, 2008

My customer uses this to record their customers at the cash register for positive ID on bad checks.  This install uses the full 1280x960 resolution, recorded using NetDVR.  It also patrols (turns to view other areas) at 4 sec per view (cam min patrol is 1 min, but NetDVR min is 1 sec).  Patrolling allows them to locate workers and use the store's PA to call extra checkers up by name.

The camera uses "relative" positioning which means patrol stops have to be programmed on the camera, instead of in NetDVR.  This limits the complexity of patrolling to 32 positions (serious overkill).

OS X is not directly supported, so viewing from a Mac either requires Windows in a Virtual Environment (I use and recommend Parallels), or a 3rd party software like Security Spy ($50 for single license, or $500 site wide).

SecuritySpy is Mac Software (but offers a web interface for Windows clients on the same network).  It views live footage free, $50 license to record and/or broadcast.

Bought camera to watch my house. April 24, 2008

I wanted a camera I can see at work from. This camera was easy to setup and the picture quality was amazing. Only PTZ camera I found that supports 1280x960 resolution.  The frame rate at this resolution was okay enough justify the higher res. I installed it at my house to view the lake from the backyard. The only thing about this camera is that it can only be viewed through Internet Explorer. I can't use firefox or safari on my mac to see it.  Other than that it is a great camera.
